- 3/4 cup scalded milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp. yeast
- 2 3/4 cups unsifted flour
- 1/8 tsp. ground cardamon - opt.
- 1/2 cup chopped apricots
- 1/2 cup dried currants
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 tbsp. melted butter
To the scalded milk add butter,sugar and salt and cool to lukewarm. Put the 1/2 c warm water into large bowl and add yeast. Allow yeast to dissolve. Add the milk mixture to yeast. Add 2 cups of flour and beat until smooth. mix in the rest of the ingredients and stir in the rest of the flour. Turn out on a lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in warm place until double in size(about 1 hr.). Punch down and roll out into oblong shape 1/2 thick. Brush with the melted butter and fold in half lengthwise. Place on greased baking sheet and brush the top and sides with melted butter as well. let rise until double again(about 45 min.). Bake at 350 for about 40 min., it should be brown.
Sprinkle with generous amount of powdered sugar before it is totally cooled.
